BEDOUIN WEAVING

another week full of adventures and discoveries.  mondays are our field trip days and this last one was the best one by far. we piled on the bus and headed down to the negev... the southern part of israel which happens to be a very dry dessert.  it doesn't sound as beautiful as much as it actually is! the light tan sand against the blue sky with the occasional acacia tree....

we were lucky enough to visit sidreh, a non-profit organization which contributes towards the empowerment, realization of rights, and the improvement of socio-economic status of palestinian-arab bedouin women in the negev. their goal is to aid these women in their pursuits, especially towards rights and education.  sidreh is a center of traditional bedouin weaving, so we got to watch one of the women creating a carpet while yasmin taught us about the process and the overall goal at sidreh.

hearing yasmin's story was so inspiring and i have so much appreciation for these women, not only because of the way they stay true to their culture and traditions but their pursuit for a better life and better opportunities in a
place where gender equality doesn't exist.

yep...bought one of those rugs.
