SHABAT, JEWISH BOYS, AND AK-47S

aaaand monday we went on a field trip exploring biblical lands. wait, what's that? you're already done reading my post? you guys... it was so cool! i saw bethlehem! and sang in hebrew! and sat on a date {not like a guy but the fruit, you know} and it got all over my pants!

tuesday was the beginning of a tough week of classes. the jerusalem center is pretty serious when it comes to class.  i mean, they make sure you learn something. okay but really, so much information about israel and palestine and the bible! i never knew my brain could hold this much information.  not only are we learning in class, but just walking through the old city is like stepping into a history book.

thursday night we decided to take a break from studying and hit west jerusalem.  we came across a burger bar that looked like what we had seen on yelp... let's just say this: kosher. no go. the rest of the night was great through. west jerusalem comes alive at night and it's so nice to just walk through the streets and observe everybody.  there is definitely a huge social scene among teens in west jerusalem which is sort of awesome.

friday night is when shabat begins in israel.  this is the jewish sabbath that starts on friday at sundown and ends saturday at sundown. can i just say that christians have got it all wrong? first of all, shabat on a saturday is seriously the best. sunday almost feels like an extra day.  second, why don't we dance when we worship like the strikingly handsome jewish boys i saw at the western wall? speaking of which, THE WESTERN WALL. there's something really special about watching others worshiping who don't share your religion.  however, the whole time i wanted to go to the men's side because it is seriously a full on party. there they are dancing and jumping and worshipping and singing and all the women are...well?  excuse me while i go and disguise myself as a boy for the rest of the trip. why do they get to have all the fun? sigh.

more thoughts... observing beautiful israeli teenage girls in full uniform with AK-47s strapped around them standing in front of the western wall, worshipping.  what is it about their olive skin tone and making an army green uniform and an automatic weapon so dang sexy?

the falafel i ate today kicked butt.

i really think i should take blogging up as a career don't you think?

no pictures this time, too busy observing....
